The dreaded pink eye (clinically known as Conjunctivitis); it spreads through schools faster than teen gossip and leaves your little ones with red, puffy, itchy eyes. The most common cases of pink eye are caused by a virus and so do not respond to antibiotics. However, many schools and some workplaces will keep infected persons away until they have been treated for 24 hours. Viral conjunctivitis will disappear on its own. Applying cool pressure to the affected eyes will help minimize discomfort. As pink eye is often contagious, reduce the chances of spreading the problem by washing your hands often and not sharing towels, cosmetics, or pillows.
