Dr. Peter Simone grew up in Kansas City, MO and attended Rockhurst University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He moved to Omaha to attend the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he was a member of the M.D.-Ph.D. Scholars Program and graduated with a Ph.D. in cancer research and an M.D. with distinction. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society as a medical student. He completed his internal medicine residency at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL and completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. He served as Academic Chief Resident during his final year of residency. He then went on to complete a two-year refractive surgery fellowship through the Refractive Surgery Alliance Fellowship Network.
His academic writing and research have been widely published. During his graduate studies, he used X-ray crystallography to study the molecular nanostructure of several proteins, including the mutation of an enzyme that removes certain toxic chemicals from cells. The mutation has been implicated in adverse reactions to several medications.
Dr. Simone is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and also specializes in refractive procedures including LASIK, PRK, ICL, refractive lens exchange, and refractive cataract surgery. He also performs eyelid surgeries including upper eyelid blepharoplasty, ptosis repair, and entropion/ectropion repair.
When Dr. Simone isn’t working, he enjoys listening to, playing and composing music; mathematics; cooking; home repair; travel; and especially spending time with his wife, two daughters and dog.
